Check the "Official Records of the War of the Rebellion, Volume XXX, Book 2. Beginning on page 663. The incident you are referring to took place during Wheeler's "Raid" into Middle Tennessee. There are thirty reports on the raid overall. Report No. 21 was by Major Michael L. Patterson of the Fourth Tennessee Infantry.
