Thank you both for the information. Although I am not very knowledgable about Wheeler's raid as a whole, Stephen Lee's Confederate cavalry, including my ggg grandfather's battalion, had been called up from Mississippi to coordinate with Wheeler. However, Wheeler had departed on the raid before they could arrive, and Lee's cavalry (about three briagdes) spent October and early November in Northern Alabama, destroying railines and trying to inhibit reinforcements to beseiged Chatanooga from the west. Two more of Lee's brigades (including another of the Weatherfords' battalions) moved into West Tennessee in early October for the same purpose, and attacked Colliersville, almost capturing Sherman, who was passing through the town by train.
