I wonder if someone can tell me if General Lew Wallace was the Commander in Charge during the Union Occupation of Jackson and Madison County, Tennessee during the time period of the Civil War. I am told by a knowledgeable source that he was. I have a story told about my GGG grandfather involving the Commander of the Union Forces during that occupation and was told the Commander was Lew Wallace. I am looking for confirmation of that or to find out the name of the Commander if it was not Lew Wallace.
