There were two (2) General Wallaces at Shiloh/Pittsburg Landing. Major General Lewis "Lew" Wallace survived the Civil War and later wrote the epic "Ben Hur". Brigadier General William Henry Lewis Wallace, also commanded a Union division at Shiloh and was mortally wounded just prior to the surrender of the troops at the Hornet's Nest/Sunken Road.
