Thanks for the response. Lane's Brigade actually had a strength of just over 1600 men at Spring Hill. He had six regiments there and one (the 26th Ohio and also the smallest) was detached elsewhere on the field so the line he changed front on had five regiments remaining, about 1500 men. I think he may have changed front with two of his regiments because two were, at the height of the fighting, shifted to his right flank to offer assistance to another brigade that was battling Cleburne's men. Do you think it possible he may have changed his "front forward" with these two regiments?
