Alan,
yes it was at the end of the war.All that I can tell you is that the Union Garrison there was attacked by Prentice and the 7th Battalion Confederate Cavalry and must have been defeated.They retreated up the Powell River headed for Cumberland Gap.Fearing that they were about to be overtaken they buried a cannon on a riverbluff a few miles from Jonesville,Va.
I can find only scraps of info about the battle but have a good account of the retreat only evan that account dosent give an exact date only that it was March 1865.
Prentice was not very active,as far as doing reports.EDWARD O. Gurrent mentioned the battle in his headquarters diary but again no details.I really cant evan put togather enough facts to say that there was a battle.I was hoping that maybe someone would have some knowledge of it.If I could come up with anything it would certainly further my research on the 7th.I would appreciate your help.
