MYSTERY?

Ok gang,
Maybe some of you can help me understand something...I recently got in a CW Union Pension application file from the Dept. of Veteran's Affairs. It wasn't supposed to be there, should've been in the Archives, but for some reason it had been sent to VA for housing. This was the result of about one full year of correspondence. Anyhow, in one of the affadavits enclosed, my great grandmother was describing my great grandfather to the examiner, and said:

"my man was tall and had almost black eyes, dark brown, and his hair was black and complexion was dark. The whole McGill generation were dark skinned. They had dutch mixed up in them and you know what that means. He did not show his dutch blood in talking"

Now I don't know of any real dutch blood in our family, as we seem to be pretty much Scots Irish Tennessee hillbillies, so does anyone know what she may have been referring to when she said "and you know what that means" ? Because I do not. Did she really mean "Dutch" or was this a slang of the times for something else? Hope that Glenn or Alan or anyone may be able to shed some light here! GGrandpa was John Wade McGill, who was a veteran of the 3rd TN Mtd. Infantry, USA.
If anyone would like to reply, you may do so here, or directly to me is perfectly fine at mcgillfam@aol.com. Thank you, and to all a very Merry Christmas!
Roy
