Mr. McGill, I am of Scot/Irish descent and am dark skinned as most of my family and while I'm not that tall many men in the familly are over six ft..My ancesters hailed from Middle /Western Marches of Scotland and after the unifying of the crowns, Fermanagh N.Ireland.Many strangers think I am hispanic.People have a misconception that all Scots/Irish are light skinned. It is not the case.Seems I remember a reference to the McGill's from the same area.This area was known as debatable land as not subject to Scot or English law.You might enjoy this,

I once had a neighbor who was an older lady from the panhandle of Texas that refered to me as black dutch as a reference to possible Indian blood.While I would be proud if it was true it is not the case.
