On May 2, 1861, the First Regiment Tennessee Volunteers was mustered into service of the State. Capt. Abraham M. Looney was Capt. of Co. H, the Maury Guards of Maury Co.

Subsequently, on the election of field officers Capt. A. M. Looney was elected as Major, F & S.

Upon reoorganization of the army in April, 1862 he was not reelected as Major.

Information obtained from Military Annals of Tennessee, John Berrien Lindsley, editor.

No further reference is found of him in either Tennessee in the Civil War, or in Lindsley's Annals.

I would assume he resigned and returned home. I would suggest you obtain his military service records. You can obtain these at the National Archives, the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville, Broadfoot Publishing Co., or the service provided through this message board.
