Johnson, Benjamin
In Response To: Re: A.M. Looney ()

Trying to locate information regarding my 6th ggrandfather;
Benjamin J. JOHNSON.
The family has a story that he died in a southern Illinois prison. His wife Caroline took one of the older boys (they had 9 children) and wemt to the prison, His body was bound hand and foot,rats had gnawed his body and severed vital arteries and he bled to death. Caroline picked him up in a "carry-all" and brought him home, Benjamin could have been wounded and she picked him up and brought him home and he died later. I have sent for copy of Death Certificate
They are buried side by side in the Cane Ridge Cemetery, in
unmarked graves.
I will have to say one thing about these JOHNSON men in my
line, they were absolutely handsome!
Tall and Thin,with very thick, black hair,with some
curl in it.
If you or someone knows anything about my Ben, I would appreciate hearing from you.
I have had two email today which encouraged me to get back
on Benjamin. One email was that he was possibily in the 45th Confederate Infantry Co "B". that is a new beginning and I will check into it.
Thank all of you for your help,
Joyce
