Re: Men serving in Turney's Regiment

Bob,
If you will send your snail mail address to me at jplatz2@telusplanet.com I will send you the video of some of the men who served in Turney's Regiment (have about 80 some odd so far - portraits, NOT tombstone pix.

Haven't got too much writtem material but can include what I have.

Eg. (spelling and grammar as copied)
May 1861: Hinton, Summers Co VA. Several skirmishes fought with Federal troops around the town of Hinton VA for control of the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad (probably the first action for the regiment). In a letter written to F.J. Graham from his brother, James Roberts Graham on May 24, 1861, F.J. Graham discusses the war and the troops and says "...Times is duller here than when you left there seems to be no money in the country at all I think the little that was here the volunteers have taken it away there has been a great change in (?) since the taking of fort sumpter It is thought Tennessee will secede by a large majority the election comes on the 8th of June. The RR is guarded through east Tennessee by state troops. There is three companies made up in Hamilton City. We are trying to get up a company in this county. I don't know whether it will be done or not. Jasper Mathis made a company at Anderson was mustered in to service a few days since Tennessee troops are (?) in at Estel Springs 9(?) miles below Dechard. I was at Winchester when a regiment elected their officers. That regiment went to Virginia before the act of the legislature authorizing the state to arm her self. The Turney Boys all three went in (this is not clear) at Hinton...". NOTE: FJ and James Robert Graham were related to Colonel Peter Turney's through his wife Hannah Graham and the letter probably refers specifically to Peter, Miller and James (and/or Hopkins Lacey Jr) Turney but, as Jacob Turney and four of his brothers Henry, Joel and James were attached to the regiment during this period, they also participated in the battles.
