I agree that this is a curious situation. A record for James Goode doesn't appear to be available, at least not as described. I do see the record for William L. Goode in the 2nd Mississippi Regiment, and find the family living in Tishomingo County MS in 1860. We might imagine that this man filed for pension benefits in later life. If so, he may have included some helpful details, such as the name of his commanding officer(s). If we could identify that name, it should point us to the correct unit for a service record.

Of course it will help support the message board to place an order here, but at the moment we don't have enough to locate a service file.

Since this man was a Mississippi resident and may have filed for a pension in that state, you might consider posting your question on that board.
