Thompsons from Tennessee

I am trying to locate info. on Three (3) Thompson men who served in the Civil War. Two were on the Confederate side and I do not know about the 3rd. one. I believe these three to be my relatives , and I know for sure that one is my gggrandfather. Here is what I know;
(1). Irby W. Thompson( lived in Bradley County,Tn.) in 1860, info. shows he was in the 62nd. Regiment, Tenn., Mounted Infantry (Rowan's) (80th. Infantry). When he lived in Bradley County in 1860, he lived next door to Richard Thompson who was born in 1830 and who had a wife named Martha with 3 daughters, Maree, Eliza Jane and Manerva.

NOTE: I cannot find him after he is listed as being in the Civil War. His wife's name was Polly. He was shown as being born in 1836.
(2). In that same 62nd. Infantry that Irby was in was a man named William A. Thompson. Is it possible that this William A. is the Richard that lived next door in 1860. Are they brothers or cousins? I do not know what county William listed from and I don't know his year of birth.
(3). The Richard that lived next door in 1860 in Bradley County , Tennessee is my gggrandfather but I don't know if Richard was his first name , a middle name or a nickname. I know he is my gggrandfather because of his wife's name, where they lived and the daughter named Eliza Jane with the right birthdate.

NOTE: I can't find him after the Civil War. I know he was in it because I use to see a picture of him hanging in my grandmother's home and he had on his uniform. However, none of the relatives alive today know if he was Union or Confederate or his full name other than Thompson.

Could this Richard be William A.? If I order the military papers for Irby and William will they show who their wifes were and who their parents were?

I can't find a Richard listed as a Civil War Soldier so I can't order papers for him. I cannot afford to order papers for every Thompson who lived in Bradley County, Tenn. and served in the Civil War.

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how I might be able to find this Richard Thompson? I just feel that Richard was not the name he used when he entered the military even though it was used in the 1860 census.
