Richard G. Thompson served in Co. C, 5th Tennessee Cavalry, this regiment was organized in Meigs Co.
His records show he was 35 when he enrolled November 12, 1861 at Cleveland, Tenn. Two other cards
state he enlisted at Knxoville, same date. I suspect, he did enlist at Cleveland, and it was at Knoxville
where the regiments companies were brought together.

Both Irby W. and William A. Thompson served in Co. K of the 62. This company was raised in Monroe Co.
There is no indication of where they enlisted.

It would be unusual to find parents, wives, et al in CSRs unless they died during the war and claims made for their effects.

The Tennessee Confederate Pension index record these two widows who may have been married to these men:

Eliza, widow of William Thompson, # W6957, Bradley County

Sara Jane, widow of William A. Thompson, # W3853, Clairborne County

George Martin
