Hi George,

Between the militia disbanding and Tennessee's secession there were a number of TN volunteer compnaies that formed and trained - mostly in the 1859-1860 time frame.

Invoices for equipment drawn from the state arsenal and the bonds posted for the captains commaniding can be found in the files of the Tennessee Adjutant General at the TN State Library & Archives. I went through those a few months ago hence my knowledge of them.

Period newspapers will also be excellent sources for these companies.

Harris did call out the militia after the secession of the state but by the end of 1861 some 92,000 TN men had already joined the volunteer regiments that had formed that year and I am not sure how much was left for the militia.
