That Breckineidge dress flag may be the most documented TN flags of the entire war! That article, and variations, appeared all over the south in newspapers. It is amazing.
The flag was described in one article finally - red and white triangles with their points joining in the center. Over that junction was a blue shield. I believe within the shield was a yellow sun with 13 rays.
This is basically this is the "Sun of Glory" flag described by the Charleston Mercury in April, 1862. It was hyped by that paper as "the new Confederate flag" - not as a submission for one. So a number of them were made for Charleston area South Carolina units - three survive today.
