Winfrey Scott , soldier from Fayette, TN

Looking for information on Winfrey Scott born 1816 KY. Found on the 1840 and 1850 censuses for Fayette County, TN. Could not find him in 1860. His name was spelled Wenfry in 1850. I beleive he probably died in the Civil War. He married Polly Baulkum on 06 Feb 1839 in Fayette, TN. Had children Elizabeth b 1841, Susan A. b 1843, Gillum b 1845, and Verlinda E. b. 1848. All born TN.

Oh yes, he had a brother named Benjamin Scott born about 1811 KY, who may have also been in the war.

He had another brother, John Scott born about 1824 AL, who moved to Pontotoc, MS by 1860 and was in the Civil War and died. Winfrey may have moved to MS also and joined from there. I did read a soldier's letter from the internet that mentioned a Winfield Scott from Pontotoc, MS that died in the war. I don't know that Winfrey would be called Winfield, though.

I don't know where to start looking to see if he was even in the war. Thanks for any help you can give me.
