All museum artifacts come with stories attached to them. Everyone wants their ancestor to have been famous or to have participated in something famous. Consequently, we often find the facts don't support the stories. So, I am not surprised our "Gettysburg" sword is unlikely to have been used at Gettysburg.
I always say if we laid end to end all of the guns in museums that allegedly belonged to Billy the Kid (or Jesse James or Buffalo Bill, etc.) they would circle the earth several times. Thank you for your help.
