In Response To: 33rd Tennessee Infantry ()

Michael,

I am the Dyer County Historian in Tennessee and have been researching Strahl's Brigade. Strahl is from Dyer County and the 33rd served for a time in his brigade (Strahl is buried near my house). I am working on a book about the war in West Tennessee and wonder if it would be possible to get a picture of the rifle you mentioned from Co. B, 33rd Tennessee Infantry for my book. My grandfather James Willis Siler was from Hardeman County and served in the same company (Co.B) as Elisha King. My family is also related to the King family of Hardeman, but I am not certain about Elisha. Willis Siler was captured and sent to Alton Prison and nearly died there. I do have a picture of him, but it was taken after the war. The records on the 33rd are few and far between, but they were among the units that broke the back of the Hornets Nest at Shiloh. I am sure you have found more information on the 33rd by now, but I will check and see if I have anything useful. I teach school and will not be out for a couple of weeks.

Best regards,
Earl Willoughby
