"With Blood and Fire"

Has anyone else read this book? The sub title is "Life Behind Union Lines in Middle Tennessee, 1863-65". My first impression was that it had a Northern bias because there was hardly any first hand account by Confederates. There is a lot of information from the provost marhal, OR's and letters by Federal officers and pro-Union civilians to explain life for Union soldiers and non combatants on both sides. After the second reading, I decided it would be very improbable to find a substantial amount of contemporary writings from the patriots/guerillas/bushwhackers. The book is written from first hand accounts and that is why it is worthwhile.

Here is one of my favorite excerpts. It is from a list of some "disloyal citizens of the Fourth District Franklin County, TN:

"Horace Allred Harbors bushwhackers and bushwhacks himself occasonally....is a shoemaker and makes shoes for

all the bushwhackers in the neighborhood." :)
