Re: Field officers of Stewart's Division

Annelle --

Columbus K. Hall was appointed 1st Lieutenant and Aide-de-Camp, June 16, 1863, to rank from May 26, 1863. His resignation dated July 30, 1863, was accepted by the War Department on Aug. 14, 1863.

The date of Sergeant Hall's wound and death should be June 11, 1864, not 1863. His rank with the 39th Alabama Regiment was Sergeant-Major, not
Sergeant. The list of Field Officers for Stewart's Division is just one paper among hundreds of thousands of others in National Archives Record Group 109. http://www.archives.gov/research/guide-fed-records/groups/109.html

Henry P. Beers, comp., Guide to the Archives of the Government of the Confederate States of America (1968), should help point you to the right area to search within Record Group 109.

Letters Received by the Confederate Secretary of War, 1861-1865, has been microfilmed as National Archives microcopy M437. It contains 155 reels of microfilm. There are tens of thousands of letters in this collection.
