I have seen instances where soldiers were listed as "died" on such & such date, when in fact they were KIA.
This is the case with one of my ancestors in the 6th TN Inf. Company I listed their Shiloh casualties as "died" while other companies of the 6th listed them as "killed". Probably just the way in which the company clerk or officer wrote or recorded the death.
