Irish Texans and the Sabine Pass

G'day from Western Australia,

I'm a keen researcher of the role played by the Irish during The War of the Rebellion.

I've read about the incident at Sabine Pass where some 45 Irish artillery men under the command of Richard (Dick) Dowling courageously held up a greatly superior Federal force.

My questions are:

Does anybody know who these Irish confederates were? Where were they from? Which unit were they with? Did they survive the war? If so what happened to them?

Secondly I've read that Texas had a fair "smattering" of Irish spread out in her regiments. I've come across a reference on the web to "McNulty's Regiment". Has anybody ever heard of this regiment. Is there anything in print regarding Texan/Irish Confederates.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
