Re: Irish Texans and the Sabine Pass

hello from down under. well, my great grandfather's name was otis McGaffey who lived at sabine pass during the northern aggression war. Otis Mc wrote a sorta of bio of himself and according to him, when about 5 years old when the yankees attacked the pass and his mother yelled at his older brother, age 9 or so to get down from the roof cause he might get shot. now otis's dad obviously Irish and his mom also wrote about her trip down to sabine pass from white springs, new york in covered wagon, indians, etc. quite interesting. otis writings detail his life, river boat travel, etc and his merchant life in luling, texas. anyways, i know that didnt answer your question about how many irish fighting at sabine pass. and good luck with quest for knowledge.

well, i also have a letter from my grandfather julian to my day saying that sam houston was kin, grandad julian's granda or so, married sam houston's brother and according to him, that makes us kin. but you know, old sam was a firece warrior, but he just did not want to fight the damm yankees. shame on him. so you lose a war, dont make you wrong.
