Re: Co. K 7th Texas Infantry Regiment

Company K was recruited in the fall and winter of 1862-63. The 7th Texas originally had only 9 companies when mustered in November 1861, and the tenth company (K) was added after a recruiting drive in Texas lasting from October 1862 to February 63. The regiment was reorganized at Port Hudson. La., on February 10, 1863, at which time Company K was officially added, with Captain William L. Coppedge as commander. The men of this company came from various parts of Texas, but a few were also enlisted in central Mississippi, where the regiment was posted from May to September 1863. John F. Poore is on record as having enlisted on August 28, 1863 at Enterprise, Mississippi. At that time the 7th boarded trains bound for Georgia.
