Re: Co. K 7th Texas Infantry Regiment

Dear Lars:

Thanks for your helpful response.

I'm confused by some facts and perhaps you can help me further. I believe you are referring to one of the muster rolls for John F. Poore when you say he enlisted on August 28, 1863, at Enterprise, Mississippi. (Noting your sources for me would help keep me straight.)

But that muster roll is for the 13th Mississippi Infantry and says he transferred from the 7th Texas, Co. K. Another enlistment record says he transferred from the 7th Texas in October 1863.

One of the muster rolls also says he was 18 at the time of enlistment, which would have been in 1861. Also, his widow's pension application indicates he enlisted in 1861. So, considering what you said about the timing of Co. K's organization, it would appeared he was in the 7th Texas before 1863, but perhaps not in Co. K.

Of course, these dates and ages could be wrong, but they do seem to bear each other out.

I found the website you noted highly useful, but Ididn't find anything that might clear up my confusion.

Thank you for your consideration.
