Company "H" 36th Reg't. TX Cavalry

"Wood's Regiment" (also called 32nd Regiment)was posted along the Rio Grande at/near Fort Ringgold (Rio Grande City). In late 1863, was ordered "dismounted", to be moved by rail to Beaumont. CSA "preempted" their horses (personal property) and 157 troopers desserted on Feb. 1, 1864 from Camp Hardiman. My G-Grandfather, ARTHUR THAMM, enlisted at San Antonio, age 25. Was imprisoned at Galveston on April 23, 1864, court martialed for desertion and sentenced to six months labor with a 32 pound ball and chain.

Questions?

1. What was the location of Camp Hardiman.
2. Is there a listing of the men from this regiment that deserted and were ultimately imprisoned at Galveston.
3. Did their horses play a role in further combat for the CSA.
