Ms. Chandler,

I'm glad to hear that "the book" did not bore you to tears. The "battle" on the Nueces River took place on August 10, 1862. The location is well-known by many "old timers" in Uvalde and Bracketville( Ft. Clark) . It is said to be approximately 20 miles north of Ft. Clark , on the banks of the West Branch of the Nueces River. It is also said to be very haunted . My deer lease last year was up in that neck of the woods ( mesquite) , but I never took the time to go by the site. I was too busy burning dead deer carcasses( anthrax die off ). Knowing the country a little bit , I'd say it's probably on private ranch land and I don't know if it is accessible or not. Your Uvalde County historical group could probably tell you all about it. My guess is that the resort at Ft Clark probably also has a historian who could tell you more about the site.
I do know that there is a monument to the slain Germans in Comfort , Texas. If you are interested , I will look up the article I read about the battle in the last year or two and either send it to you or tell you where to find it.
Regards, Craig Morin
