The flag in 1861 was the Stars and Bars with the the circle of stars having 4 more stars with the tribial names on top of each star. Then there is a unit marker on the white stripe. Go see the flags. They also have the flag dropped 8 times in the cornfield at Sharpeburg, Maryland in 1862 by the 1ST. Texas. I wasn't picked up the ninth time because there weren't anymore people to pick it up. The Yankee that picked it up would get a Congressional Medal of Honnor for walking over and picking it up. He did get lucky that he wasn't killed, so that he could pick it up. But that isn't saying much.
