Re: Texas State Troops
In Response To: Re: Texas State Troops ()

Thank you, Kevin! I thought it was the TST I needed to look into, but apparently not. It's the boys who were briefly accepted into state service before being transferred that I would like to find information on. My knowledge of the history of these fellows is rather limited and appreciate any and all help.

I'm trying to track down a soldier by the name of Paul Madison (or some derivation thereof). I have not found a name resembling his on any of the Texas Brigade muster rolls, yet it is my understanding that he fought at Gettysburg and odds are fairly good that he never left the Triangular Field. I remember being told that he had been transferred to Hood's Texas Brigade some time prior to Gettysburg and that he was a member of a temporary or disbanded unit prior to that transfer. His place of residence was Bexar County or perhaps even Calhoun; the name San Antonio was mentioned but I was not clear as to whether the city or the bay was being referred to. This would have most likely placed him with the 4th or 5th Texas. But at this point, I am searching all possibilities.

Since I haven't found a name resembling his on any of the Confederate Army muster rolls that are on line, I am wondering if it may appear elsewhere such as a muster roll for the temporary unit he had belonged to. Do such things even exist?

Thanks in advance.

Linda
