6th Cav Sharpshooters, Company I

My GGf and his brother, PVT Robert A. Nolan and PVT James Tiry. Nolan were transferred from Company K, 6th TX Cav Rgt to Company I on July 17, 1862 and attached to a Col Sterman's Sharpshooters Regiment. As this was prior to the attacks on Iuka and Corinth, it must have been part of the Order of Battle. A company of Texas sharpshooters would have greatly affected the battle at Corinth prior to the delayed engagement on Oct 4th, which allowed the Union to regroup it's artillery, which caused the Confederate loss. Has anyone read or have knowledge of an Infantry Regiment led by a Col Sterman and its affect on the battle? We know the 6th was dismounted for this battle, but it had no Col Sterman. Also is it possible to determine the company casulties ( No. KIA/Wounded) from these battles?
I know my GGF had a broken arm and was capturred at Hatchie Bridge the next day and later parolled.
