I have reviewed quite a few Civil War records and usually if they are on a list of prisoners, then they were captured. The Paroles that are dated in May or June of 1865 are just their agreements not to fight any more as you mentioned. Is there a date on the " List of Prisoners", that should give you a good clue if he was actually captured.If it is early 1865 or before, then he most likely was a prisoner.
