Your man was part of the formal surrender of surviving CS field forces after the fall of Mobile.(The assult on the CS position at Blakely, Alabama took place the day Lee surrendered) The war was already over for all practical purposes, Lee and Johnson having both surrendered and the CS government in flight. So yes, he was captured. Instead of shipping them north to a prison camp it was easier to parole them. Militarily this ment that the soldier promised not to resume arms until he was properly and formerly exchanged for a prisioner on the other side. At the time your man accepted parole it really just meant he had official permission to return home since the CSA had ceased to exist for practical purposes.
