George W. Damron was Captain John Henry Damron's brother. That is according to Charles Chaney, John Henry Damron's great grandson.

Captain John H. Damron was in the 1st Texas Cavalry, Col. Peter Hardeman's Arizona Brigade and served in Indian Territory and Arkansas. The 1st Texas Cavalry was assigned to Brig. Gen. Richard M. Gano's Brigade in Indian Territory. Gano's Brigade engaged the 1st Kansas Colored Infantry at the second battle of Cabin Creek, I.T. and recovered $ 1.5 million in outright plunder, livestock and supplies. That was the most notible engagement the 5th Texas Partisan Rangers and the 1st Texas Cavalry was in. The units also fought battles at Massard's Prairie, and Poison Springs Arkansas. The Arizona Brigade was first mustered at Camp Peach, Colorado County near Columbus Texas with intention of going back to the Arizona-New Mexico Territory and retake the region for the Confederacy. However, the 1st Texas Cavalry of Hardeman's Arizona Brigade was relocated to the Warren Supply Depot in Fannin County in 1863 to help defend against a perceived Union invasion of North Texas along the Texas Road from Fort Smith Arkansas and Fort Scott Kansas.

Col. Leonidas Martin's 5th Texas Partisan Rangers was mustered around Farmersville, Texas and was sent to Indian Territory and Arkansas. Martin's regiment was reassigned to Brig. Gen. Henry McCulloch to assist his Texas Troops in Fannin and Hunt County in arresting renagade Indians, deserters, draft evaders, outlaws, reg-legs and Union sympathsizers. The Damron family settled near Savoy in Fannin County in 1856. John H. Damron enlisted in Captain William Dulaney's Company in Fannin County, Texas State Troops, also known as "The Caney Creek Mounted Infantry". George Damron enlisted as a private in Col. Leonidas Martin's 5th Texas Partisan Rangers. Lt. John H. Damron of Delaney's Company, Texas State Troops was elected captain and raised a company of dismounted cavalry which became Company C, 1st Texas Cavalry, Col.Peter Hardeman's A4rizona Brigade. My great grandfather enlisted in Capt. Damron's company when the Texas States Troops were dissolved.

Captain John H. Damron married my great grandmother's sister, Nancy Blanton. They are buried in the Zephyr Cemetery in Brown County Texas.I recently installed a VA Confederate Veterans markers at my great grandfather Joshua Coffee and Captain John H. Damron's gravesites.

Mrs. Patricia Adkins Rochette's book covers this information.
