*January, 1863.
Colonel Leonidas Martin mustered the 5th Texas Partisan Rangers around Farmersville, Texas. The regiment moved to Fort Washita where they were consolidated with the 9th and 10th Texas Cavalry Battalions.
*April 21, 1863.
Engaged near Webber Falls, I.T.
*May, 1863.
Engaged in a skirmish near Fort Givbson, I.T. attacked a Union supply train with unsucessful results.
*July 17, 1863.
Engaged at the Battle of Honey Springs near the present town of Muskogee, OK. Much of the gunpowder used by the Confederate forces was made in Mexico and was inferior quality. The damp weather also contributed to the problem by turning the gunpowder into paste.
*October 9,1963.
Ordered to Bonham, Texas for service under Brig. Gen Henry E.McCulloch.The duty was to round up deserters and bring order to the Northeast Texas area.
*November 10, 1863.
Ordered to General Douglas Cooper's Brigade with Col.John Jumper's Seminole Battalion and Col.DeMorse's 29th Texas Cavalry.
March, 1864.
Pursued William C. Quantrill to Colbert's Ferry after Quantrill was broken out of the military jail at Bonham, Texas. Martin's 5th Texas Partisan Rangers halted the pursuit at Colbert's Ferry on the Red River since they were still under Brig. Gen. McCulloch and were still under Texas State Troops authority. Texas Law prohibited State Troops from leaving the state.
*December 22, 1863.
On furlough for Christmas. Recalled at McKinney and were moved to Pilot Grove,Texas. The 5th Texas Partisan Rangers were marched to Gainesville, Texas with Major J.R. Diamond's Brush Battalion to meet a threat of Comanche Indians, Kansas Jayhawkers and a small group of Union Cavalry troops. The threat was over when the invaders departed before the Brush Battalion and the 5th Texas Partisan Rangers could arrive.
*March 21, 1864.
Assigned to Brig. General Richard M. Gano's Brigade, Gen. Samuel Bell Maxey's Division, Department of Arkansas.
*July 27, 1864.
Participated in the battle of Massard's Prairie Arkansas. William C. Quantrill and his irrigular light cavalry were also at the battle of Massard's Prairie after Quantrill fled Texas. The battle at Massard's Prairie was a futile attempt to retake Fort Smith.
*September 19, 1864.
Participated in one of the most daring raids of the war at Cabin Creek, I.T.
*December 29, 1864.
Ordered back to Bonham, Texas for temporary duty under Brig.Gen. H.E. McCulloch.
*February 26.1865.
Reinforced Gould's Brigade, 23rd Texas Cavalry, at Marshall, Texas. Gould's Brigade was reduced by death, disease and desertion.
*May 26, 1865.
General Edmund Kirby-Smith surrendered the Trans-Mississippi forces.
