John Henry Damron had a brother named George W. Damron but it may not be the one you are looking for.

Col. Leonidas Martin's 5th Texas Cavalry Partisan Rangers was mustered around Farmersville, Texas from men that were in the local militia groups and units of 14th Brigade of Texas State Troops after those units were disbanded. The 5th Texas Cavalry Partisan Rangers was moved from Collin County to Fort mcCulloch I.T. where other units was combined with them to bring the troop strength up to a full regiment.

Do not confuse Col. Martin's 5th Partisan Cavalry regiment with Col. Thomas Green's 5th Texas Cavalry Regiment. Col. Green's regiment was mustered in San Antonio with the majority of the recruits from Waco, Weatherford, Bonham, San Antonio and Austin. Col.Thomas and the 5th Texas Cavalry was assigned to Brig. Gen. Henry H. Sibley's Arizona Brigade and participated in Sibley's ill-fated New Mexico campaign. What was left of the 5th Texas Cavalry was later moved into Louisiana and fought at Cox's Plantation and Bayou Barbeau, suffering 106 casualties.
