In Response To: Re: Gideon R. Barnes ()

Gideon R. Barnes, 29, 2nd cpl, Co C, 9th TX Inf died of illness in Paris, TX, on Jan 6, 1862. The regiment suffered considerably from a variety of illnesses -- especially measles -- prior to marching to Corinth, MS, prior to fighting its first battle at Shiloh, April 6-7, 1862.

I do not have much additional material on this soldier. I would enjoy learning anything you have from family history, etc.

I am writing a history of the regiment as my dissertation at UNT in Denton. Co C, raised in Sherman, Grayson Co, also had a John Barnes, 23. John was killed the first day at Shiloh, April 6, 1862. John was living in Bowie County in 1860.

I look forward to hearing back from you. -- Gary Wisler
