Gideon R. Barnes, Co. C 9th Tx Inf. CSA
In Response To: Fantastic! ()

I'd like to really thank everyone that assisted in solving this mystery regarding Gideon R. Barnes. This is a very big discovery! After all, so many soldiers were buried in graves without a name. My guess is that his family heard of his death about Feb. 21, 1862 and by the time it was recorded in family notes years later, it became the estimated date of death. I can't wait to make a trip to see his final resting place.
