Re: 1st Cavalry, Texas State Troops

Harrison and Upshur Counties were in the 6th Brigade District, Texas State Troops. The recruits in the 10th Texas Cavalry, C.S.A. came from the 6th, 12th, 10th, and 5th T.S.T. Brigade Districts.

To my knowledge, the 1st Texas Cavalry Regiment, Texas State Troops came from Coryell County and became part of McCulloch's 1st Texas Mounted Rifles, C.S.A. for frontier service. McCulloch's regiment of the 1st Texas Mounted Rifles was the first Texas militia unit to be mustered into Confederate service. The remainder of the Texas State Troops were recruited into brigade sized units and were reassigned to different regimental sized units of the Confederate army when the state militia brigades were disbanded. Many Confederate regiments moved through the state mustering troops until they were at regimental strength. That makes it difficult to say in which county a regiment was raised.
