The 14th Tex. Cavalry was initially the 1st Texas mounted volunteers under Col. Middleton Johnson. They were dismounted in Ark., in early 1862 and fought the rest of the war as infantry. Their last battle was in April,1865 as they defended Spanish Fort,Alabama.
