Ms Chandler,

Your Capt. John H. Robinson is also the same man as Major John H. Robinson of the 33rd Texas Cavalry.
I'll keep looking for Barns' Brigade. The only Barns I can find is LtCol James W Barnes who served with the Texas 4th Infantry Regiment , State Troops. This outfit was organized for only six months between late 1863 and early 1864. ( Sifakis) . He is also listed as the Col. of the Reserve Corps ( Wright/Simpson) . I have no idea who the Reserve Corps was other than probably boys , older men or those who had been invalided due to war wounds / disease. Some other CSA states had those kind of outfits primarly for local defense. That's the only Barnes I can find in Texas who led a command.
I can appreciate your relief about the Nueces situation. I also agree with your assessment about him living around all those German Texans all those years after the war. Believe me, I know some folks up around Burton, Brenham and Fredericksburg, Texas who are still sensitive about the Nueces situation . So, I have no doubt in believing that in the post war era, feelings were still pretty high over that incident and he would have not been to popular with his neighbors if they suspected that was a participant in that regretable incident.
Glad I could help.
Regards, Craig
