Firt things first - Thanks so much for the quick and exhaustive response. It was exactly what I wished for but far more than I expected! You obviously are very familiar with Texas CW outfits so perhaps you could clear up something else for me: How could my gggrandfather have served in three, possibly four, different regiments? I first found him in a Louisiana outfit, Greenleaf's Co. of the Orleans Light Horse Cav.! Was movement from reg't to reg't that easy to accomplish? (At any rate, he was fortunate not to spend the war with Greenleaf as that company, attached to the Army of Tennessee, was in a host of major battles in the West, beginning with Shiloh, and suffered a disproportionately high number of casualties).

I will waste little time in checking out the referenced websites and the publication. Thanks again for helping to keep the fire going!
