I don't have any historical evidence that Stonewall Jackson was or wasn't a bigot, but the novel Gods and Generals certainly implies that he was not. The book suggests that he was a deeply religious man, gave his own money to help educate black students, and thoroughly enjoyed his time in Mexico during the Mexican War where he apparently acquired his taste for lemons and learned some of the Spanish language. It would be interesting to explore further the historical record.
