A brief list of the command structure of the 15th Texas Infantry is as follows:

Sept.- Nov. 1861: The 15th Texas Infantry Regiment was raised by Col. Joseph Warren Speight and Lt.Col. James Edward Harrison in Waco and McClennan County Texas with John Warwick Daniel, major.

Nov.1862: Col. Speight placed in command of Speight's Brigade and Lt.Col. James E. Harrison takes command of the 15th Texas Infantry Regiment.

Jan. 1863: The 15th Texas Infantry is joins Polignac's Brigade.

Feb.-May 1863: Col. Almarine Alexander takes command of the 15th Texas Cavalry after his 34th Texas Cavalry Regiment is reduced to an infantry unit and merged with the 15th Texas Infantry Regiment.

Feb.1865: Col. Harrison promoted to brigidier general in command of a infantry brigade which includes the 15th Texas Infantry.

March 1865: Maj. John W. Daniel promoted to Lt.Col. and takes command of the 15th Texas Infantry Regiment, Brig. Gen. Harrison's Brigade, Maj.Gen. John Austin Wharton's Division. The regiment was reduced to 20 officers, 310 men and moved to Camp Groce, near Hempstead,Texas where it is merged with Col. Peter C. Hardeman's 1st Texas Dismounted Cavalry Regiment and a regiment of Texas State Troops from Colorado County to form a brigade.

May 24, 1865: The 15th Texas Infantry is detached and moved to Richmond Texas for coastal defense and discharged two days later.

May 26, 1865: Maj.Gen. Edmund Kirby-Smith surrenders the Trans-Mississippi Department.
