Thanks Charlie. After the advisory ... and many attempts, was finally successful getting to the Soldiers & Sailors section of the NPS site ... and with that, was able to compose a listing of all Company 'B' members with the wife's g grandfather being one of them.

His name was Wilhelm KLIER and he was one of the 'lucky' survivors of the atrocity perpertrated upon the Germans in the Hill country of Texas by a bunch of bushwackers. His 'punishment' after being turned in by his brother-in-law was to join this group.

We don't know what his duties were, and family history does not contain that, but we surmise, based on the massacre background, that he likely was a non-combatant; cook, clerk, quartermaster ... or something similar.
