I see I'm not communicating. When a commander put togather a regiment, the headquarters element seems to be called F & S. I assumed this ment Field and Service? In todays army it is called Hq & Hq Company and has its on TOE. These commanders drew their Hq service people from the several companies and their own strap hangers. In each of the Ross Brigade Regiments I can identify the regimental F & S from a master roster. Now I am Looking for a list of people who worked for Witfield and Ross.
My understanding of Whitfield is that he had a Battalion Plus before Ross was commissioned major. When he was augmented with the extra companies (5 or 6) to make him a super regiment/Legion (12 Companies)which was based that one company had some experience in artillery and any one company could have been dismounted to act as Infantry to function as a legion. Of course being Texans they prefered to be Cavalry.
Now back to a list of Ross' HQ people? Out of the 4000 + I could identify some who may hve been at regiment and a few that may have been at brigade. I am hoping there is a list of those who served at brigade level.
