Re: Col. James P. Major
In Response To: Col. James P. Major ()

James Patrick Major was a West Point grad who had served in the 2nd US Cav until his resignation. He then joined the Missouri State Guard and rose to the rank of colonel. It appears that he was appointed brigadier general in July 1863. The period of time between Pea Ridge and July being so short, I doubt that he ever raised a regiment of lancers. He did command a brigade or division of Texas cavalry for the balance of the war.
