According to the sketch on Major in William C. Davis (ed.), "The Confederate General", Vol. IV, Major returned to Texas to raise a regiment of lancers but ran into opposition from Governor Lubbock. Major's plan failed, and he returned to Arkansas in March 1862 after Pea Ridge. He accompanied Van Dorn east of the Mississippi River.
