Only two Confederate officers were present during the surrender agreement made at Citronelle AL, May 4, 1865. Officers and men of Taylor's army were informed of the agreement later and paroles issued at designated points beginning on May 9th. Based on the number of paroles issued, it appears that most Confederates who belonged to General Taylor's army remained in camp until paroles were issued.
