I am trying to prove if my GGG-Grandfather served in the Civil War. He is buried in the Washington Cemetery in Houston, TX and has no headstone. If I can prove that he served in the Civil War, I can get him a headstone. I found the following information: William H. Givens served in Civil War - Co. G 10th Tex Inf - Nelson's Regt. Later known as Grandbury's Consolidated Texas Brigade about 4-9-1865.

NOW, the problem is, there are two William H. Givens, and both married a Martha. Mine, was born in March 1831, SC. He died November 1903 in Houston, TX and buried in Washington Cem. on Washington Ave. in Houston, TX His first wife's name was Elizabeth, and his second wife's name was Martha "Mattie".

The other William H. Givens was born in 1836, lived in Liberty, Texas (Mine lived in Liberty, Texas before he moved to Houston, Harris Co., Tex) The 2nd W.H. Givens also married a Martha. I have no more info on this Givens.

My second problem is: The people who is putting together a book on who all is buried at the cemetery and is helping in getting headstones setup (my Givens has no headstone) Will not accept the Military info that I had help finding by the lady that worked there at the George Library in Richmond, Texas. The people with the Washington Cemetery History Book, are telling me that, that info does not fit with My William H. Givens. I would like vewry much to know if this is the correct info for my William H. Givens, so I can get him a headstone, and also so I can get his name and war info in the book they are putting together.

Every year, they do a re-inactment of the Civil War, and put flags at all graves who served in any war. I would like very much for my GGG-Grandfather be included, that is if I can prove this info, and if not if anyone can help me find out if he indeed serve in the Civil War. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
